What does FictionAI do?
It helps you plan and draft a novel with AI. From a short pitch it builds a story bible (premise, world, cast and a chapter-by-chapter outline) that you edit, then writes chapters from that bible in a workspace where you edit, continue, rewrite and revise.
Why do I need an OpenRouter account?
FictionAI uses your own OpenRouter account for AI generation, so you pay OpenRouter directly for what you use and can see and cap your spending there. Connecting takes one click from inside the app, or you can paste a key.
How much does a chapter cost?
It depends on the Quality setting: Fast uses Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite, Balanced the latest Claude Sonnet and Best the latest Claude Opus. The app shows an estimate from OpenRouter’s current prices before every action and the actual cost afterwards.
Can I choose the AI model?
Pick Fast, Balanced or Best once in Settings. If you want a specific model for one kind of task, Settings → Advanced lets you choose any model OpenRouter lists, including Claude, GPT and Gemini models.
What can I export?
DOCX, PDF, Markdown, plain text and HTML. DOCX opens in Word, Google Docs, Atticus and Vellum, and is a format Amazon KDP accepts for upload. There is no EPUB export.
Is there a free plan?
Yes. The Free plan includes 3 books, no series and needs no credit card. Pro gives you unlimited books, unlimited series, and access to NSFW content generation. Free is limited to 3 books, no series, with no NSFW content.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. FictionAI runs in the browser and can be installed as an app on phone and desktop. Chapters you type while offline are kept on the device and saved when you reconnect.
