For historical fiction writers
Plan and write your historical novel with AI
Name the era and pitch the story. FictionAI drafts a story bible (setting, period, cast, chapter outline) that you correct and research, then writes each chapter with it in view.
3 books free, no credit card. AI use is billed by OpenRouter to your own account.
What you get for a historical book
Setting and period
The world card holds the setting, time period, key locations and the rules of the society (class, law, customs). Correct anything the model got wrong; chapters are written from your version.
Real and fictional people
Add historical figures and invented characters to the cast, each with a description, backstory, motivation and arc.
Dual timelines
Describe a past and present thread in your pitch and notes; the outline assigns events chapter by chapter, and you can reorder them.
A chapter outline
A summary, key events and a closing hook for every chapter, built around the events you name.
Your research notes
Fine-tune has a free-text notes field. Put sources, period vocabulary and facts to respect there.
Series
On Pro ($9.99/month), a saga across generations can share one world and cast as a series.
Any era
Historical Fiction is a built-in genre. There are no per-era templates: you set the period in the pitch and the world card.
Ancient worlds
Egypt, Greece, Rome.
Medieval and Renaissance
Courts, monasteries, trade cities.
Regency and Victorian
Society, class and manners.
The twentieth century
The world wars and after.

Questions
Can AI write historically accurate fiction?
It can draft period prose, but it makes mistakes: invented details, anachronisms, wrong dates. FictionAI writes from the setting and period in your story bible, which you can correct, and you should check facts against real sources before publishing.
How does FictionAI handle period details?
The era, place, social rules and your notes are in the story bible, and every chapter prompt includes them along with the earlier chapters. It does not look anything up or verify facts.
What historical periods are supported?
Any period you can describe. Historical Fiction is a built-in genre with its own defaults; the era itself comes from your pitch and world card. There are no pre-built era templates.
Can I mix history with fiction?
Yes. Add real figures and invented characters to the cast and name the real events in your pitch or outline. Keeping the line between record and invention is your job as the author.
Does it help with research?
Not directly. The models know a lot about history but have no research or fact-checking tool here. Use it to draft, and keep your research notes in Fine-tune so chapters follow them.
